Provide financial support to people of transgender and non-binary experience with financial need for surgeries or medical interventions to affirm gender identity .
Note: True Self Foundation recognizes that not all transgender or non-binary people are interested in or need surgery to achieve a healthy transition. However, for many people for whom surgery is an important step in their transition, financial costs are often an impediment.

Five $3,000.00 grants, subject to availability of funds.
Note: The scholarship is used to pay off the surgical intervention through direct payment to the surgeon/doctor.
Winners will be announced in March
- Identify as a person of trans or non-binary experience.
- Complete the Certification of Surgeonx
- Submit official cost estimate for the surgery.
- Complete Be Free Fund Application.
- Must be a resident of Puerto Rico.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- The surgery must be performed in Puerto Rico.
- Consent to use your photo and name of your choice as part of publicity of the grant awards.
- Commit to cover the rest of the expenses and costs associated with your operation and that exceed the amount granted by the True Self Foundation.
- Commit, within the established dates, to complete the required documents and submit the documentation requested, including the W-9. True Self Foundation will reserve your grant for a term of one (1) year from the announcement date of the winners on March.

- How many people receive a scholarship for each cycle?
The number of people who receive scholarships during each cycle will depend on the availability of funds. However, five partial scholarships are expected to be awarded per year. - Who decides if I win the scholarship?

No. Before submitting the applications for evaluation, any information that could identify the applicants in any way, including names, telephone numbers, and addresses, will be removed. True Self Foundation will keep that information for future communications with applicants. - How do I know if I am a beneficiary of the scholarship?
True Self Foundation will contact the scholarship finalists. However, you could apply for the scholarship for subsequent cycles by filling out the application and including the documents that are requested again. - How long do I have to perform the procedure?
True Self Foundation will reserve your scholarship for a term of one (1) year from the time the winners are announced on March 31st.
